Who's To Blame For Sub Accident? - CBS News
Tue, 20 Jun 2017 00:51
A head-on collision at 40 miles per hour is, by any standard, a bad accident. But a head-on collision in a submarine 525 feet deep in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is a disaster. That's exactly what happened to the USS San Francisco last January, when it struck an undersea mountain in one of the worst accidents in modern naval history. How does a submarine run into a mountain? And whose fault was it?
The crew of the USS San Francisco tell how they survived 52 harrowing hours at sea.
After the accident, the entire bow of the USS San Francisco, a $1 billion, fast-attack nuclear submarine, was shattered.
"We took a full frontal hit," says Cmdr. Kevin Mooney, who was the submarine's captain on the day of the crash. "I think we came pretty close [to losing that submarine]. I do accept full responsibility for the grounding of San Francisco. I expected the Navy to hold me accountable for this horrible accident and they did."
Mooney was a rising star in the submarine force, hand-picked to skipper the San Francisco on its peacetime mission of sneaking around the Pacific and spying on other countries and their navies. In the 13 months since he'd taken command, he'd won accolades for his leadership.
Then, four months ago, Mooney and his crew were sent on a high-speed run from their home port on the Pacific Island of Guam south to Australia for a port visit. They were passing through the Caroline Islands, at a depth of 525 feet, when 7,000 tons of steel with 137 souls on board came to a crashing halt.
"The noise was deafening, initially, [like] an explosion," says Mooney, who was eating lunch in the wardroom. He was thrown across the table. "My first thought was that I was going to die."
"All of a sudden, you find yourself slammed into something and the whole world is shaking," says senior chief Danny Hager, who was in the sub's control room and smashed into the instrument panel. "Immediately, I knew we hit something and it was going to be bad."
"I remember just bodies everywhere," says Petty Officer Brian Barnes, who was standing in the lunch line and was thrown to the deck. "Broken glass, stepping on plates, your shipmates moaning because they're in pain, yelling."
"We had a lot of people thrown, you know, about 20, 25 feet. Those were the guys that were injured the worst, because, you know, there's not very many soft things on a submarine," says Hager.
Those still able began to take stock of the damage. Flooding is what every member of the crew dreaded most. At 525 feet deep, water pressure is 16 times what it is at the surface. If there were any serious leaks in the inner hull, water would come rushing in and doom the ship within minutes.
"The enemy is out there and it's sea water and it's trying to get in," says Mooney.
The crew of the San Francisco performed what's called an emergency blow, pumping air into the sub's ballast tanks to float it to the surface. All eyes turned to Hager, who was monitoring the depth gauge.
"I told them 525 feet 0 acceleration. And I'm waiting, you know, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, I don't know how long it was, you know, 525 feet, 0 acceleration," says Hager. "And it was just absolutely silence in control because they're waiting for me to report that we were accelerating upwards."
What they didn't know at the time was most of their front ballast tanks were destroyed.
"So the forward tanks were ruptured," says Martin. "And that air you were trying to pump into them was just going out into the ocean."
"Just going out into the ocean," says Hager.
Finally, air filled the rear tanks, which slowly began pulling the sub up.
"You could feel the pregnant pause, and then almost the relief when I said 500 feet acceleration upwards," says Hager.
Mooney says it took a few minutes to get the sub to the surface. But that was just the beginning.
"The crew had to get that ship home. An injured crew; a beaten crew," says Mooney. "I think the crew was terrified. There was blood all over the decks."
Ninety-eight of the 137 crew members had been injured, about 20 of them seriously enough that they could no longer man their watch stations. Petty Officer Joey Ashley was the worst off with a massive head injury.
"Basically, he'd flown about 20-25 feet, and struck a pump, head first, and he was in serious critical condition," says Hager.
Mooney radioed for help, but the San Francisco was hundreds of miles from home and there were no ships nearby. Its bow was crushed; its propeller bobbing in and out of the water. And the crew wasn't sure they could keep it from going down.

Possible terrorism involved in tanker ship colliding into USS Fitzgerald, did a massive U-turn to ram it'...'.... '' The Tundra Tabloids'...'....
Tue, 20 Jun 2017 13:26
Not an accident'...'.....
Retired Naval Intelligence officer J.E.Dyer tells the TT the following:
I'll start by saying that Fitzgerald's case doesn't make sense as the sort of situation you describe. The container ship couldn't have been asleep at the helm. It executed two U-turns and then seemed to alter course again, at increased speed, before ramming Fitz amidships. This wasn't just an accident. Fitz would normally have issued warnings on bridge-to-bridge, sounded blasts on her horn at the merchant, and maneuvered if necessary herself to avoid the collision. We don't know the answer to the question whether Fitz tried to avoid it, but my assumption is yes. No Navy ship just stubbornly waits to be hit in order to prove a point.US military officials aren't ruling anything out, including that the collision with the USS Fitzgerald was both intentional and a terrorist act:
What's interesting from this report is that GMA says that multiple maritime trackers show the cargo ship doing a massive u-turn just before hitting the USS Fitzgerald, which makes it look very intentional:
Also notice that the ship directly hit the area of the ship were sailors were sleeping. Is that a coincidence?
GMA reports that company that owns the cargo ship is now saying that the u-turn never happened and the incident happened 50 minutes earlier than the US Navy reports it.
Here are the seven sailors who died in the collision (click to enlarge):

Nunes: No collusion between Trump and Russians - POLITICO

IRVINE, Calif. '-- House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes said Saturday there ''was never any collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians,'' casting himself as a victim of media bias and calling on Washington to ''stop chasing Russian ghosts around the closet.''
The California Republican's remarks came a day after Trump appeared to acknowledge he is under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey, as special counsel Robert Mueller probes Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Story Continued Below
Nunes, addressing GOP donors in Orange County, said that after searching for any evidence of collusion, ''I said 'OK, I don't think there's any collusion here.' And what happened to me? All the major papers in the country did a total character assassination on me. Why? Because I was telling the truth, that there was never any collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians.''
Now, Nunes said, ''I have to ask myself, Was this really an investigation in search of a crime? And I will tell you, if that's what it ends up being, there will be a huge, huge division in this country.''
Nunes, who served on Trump's transition team, in April stepped aside from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election after the House Ethics Committee announced it was investigating his handling of classified information.
The keynote speaker at the Orange County Republican Party's annual Flag Day Salute dinner, Nunes suggested the Russia investigation is distracting Washington from more pressing policy concerns.
He said Republicans must do a ''better job selling'' their health care overhaul, for example, but that ''part of [it] also means that we have to stop chasing Russian ghosts around the closet and actually get to real work.''

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in May added Nunes to its list of California targets, despite his district being historically Republican. But Orange County is far more competitive, and Republicans are bracing for challenges to incumbents there.
The crowd applauded Nunes as he dismissed the Russia investigation and railed against news reporters, faulting the media for the shooting at a congressional baseball practice last week.
''Every night there's a news story that runs that '... has something in common,'' he said. ''It's anti-Trump, anti-Republican, and promotes this nonsense that you're seeing with protesters everywhere. And they continue to promote it, which continues to promote violence. And you see the latest fiasco with, you know, cutting off Donald Trump's head to attacking him on stage, or having a Julius Caesar play look like it's him on stage. So, it didn't surprise me, quite frankly.''

Russia halts US aviation cooperation over downing of Syrian jet - France 24
Mon, 19 Jun 2017 17:00
(C) Omar haj kadour, AFP | A Syrian army jet fires rockets over the village of Rahbet Khattab in Hama province on March 23, 2017.
The Russian defence ministry said Monday that it was halting aviation cooperation with the United States after the US downed a Syrian government warplane on Sunday, a move one Russian official described as a clear ''act of aggression''.
The Russian defence ministry said it was halting cooperation with Washington within the framework of the Memorandum on the Prevention of Incidents and Ensuring Air Safety in Syria, effective immediately. It also accused the United States of not using the proper communication channels before shooting down the Syrian army jet.
"The command of the coalition forces did not use the established communication channel for preventing incidents in Syrian airspace," the ministry said, adding that Moscow "ends cooperation with the American side from June 19".
Moreover, any coalition aircraft flying to the west of the Euphrates will be treated as targets, the defence ministry said.
"Any flying objects, including planes and drones of the international coalition, discovered west of the Euphrates river will be tracked as aerial targets by Russia's air defences on and above ground."
Russia previously suspended the memorandum of understanding on air safety in April to protest against US airstrikes launched in response to a suspected chemical attack.
Russia's deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, on Monday firmly condemned the United States for shooting down the Syrian plane, calling it an "act of aggression".
"This strike has to be seen as a continuation of America's line to disregard the norms of international law," Ryabkov told journalists in Moscow on Monday, the TASS news agency reported. "What is this if not an act of aggression?"
Ryabkov said the Kremlin had also warned the United States not to use force against the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a longtime Moscow ally.
The incident marked the first time an American fighter jet had taken down a Syrian warplane, which Washington accused of attacking US-backed fighters.
The tensions come as the US-led coalition and allied fighters battle to evict the Islamic State (IS) group from its Syrian stronghold of Raqqa.

The Syrian jet was shot down after regime forces engaged fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance battling IS jihadists with US support, in an area close to Raqqa. The American F/A-18E Super Hornet shot down the Syrian SU-22 around 7pm as it "dropped bombs near SDF fighters" south of the town of Tabqa, the coalition said in a statement.
It said that several hours earlier, regime forces had attacked the SDF in another town near Tabqa, wounding several and driving the SDF from the town.
The coalition said the Syrian warplane had been shot down "in accordance with rules of engagement and in collective self-defence of Coalition partnered forces".
Syria's army disputed the account, saying its plane was hit while "conducting a mission against the terrorist Islamic State group".
It warned of "the grave consequences of this flagrant aggression".
International imbroglio
The SDF entered Raqqa for the first time earlier this month and now holds four neighbourhoods in the east and west of the city.
In a further escalation of military action in Syria, Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it launched a series of missiles into Syria on Sunday in revenge for deadly attacks on its capital that were claimed by the Islamic State group. It said the missiles were "in retaliation" for a June 7 attack on the parliament complex and the shrine of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini that killed 17 people.
Assad has focused his forces further east, to the oil-rich province of Deir Ezzor, which is largely under IS group control and where government forces are besieged in part of the provincial capital.
Outside of coalition operations, US forces have only once directly targeted the regime '' when Washington launched air strikes against an airbase it said was the launchpad for an alleged chemical attack that killed more than 80 civilians in April.
The Kremlin denounced those US strikes as an "aggression against a sovereign state in violation of international law".
Syria's war began in March 2011 with anti-government protests but has since spiralled into a complex and bloody conflict that has killed more than 320,000 people and become a proxy war for regional powers as well as ensnaring the United States and Russia.
Interfax reported that Ryabkov and the US under secretary of state, Thomas Shannon, would meet in St Petersburg on June 23 to discuss persistent tensions in bilateral ties.

Extremism experts are starting to worry about the left '' VICE News
Thu, 22 Jun 2017 09:08
WASHINGTON '-- In the spring of 2016, Brian Levin found himself in an uncomfortable position: trying to save the life of a Ku Klux Klan member.
Levin, a former New York City cop who studies domestic extremism as the director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, was documenting a Klan rally in Anaheim, California, when a counterprotest suddenly took a violent swing '-- forcing Levin to physically place himself between a Klansman and a furious, anti-fascist mob that seemed ready to kill.
It made Levin wonder if in his focus on the obvious subject '-- the white supremacists '-- he'd overlooked a growing source of extremism: the far left. ''A t that point, I said we have something coalescing on the hard left ,'' Levin told VICE News.
Wednesday morning's shooting of Republican lawmakers at a baseball practice in Virginia seemed to raise the question again. The shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was a Bernie Sanders-supporting man from Illinois with a record of anti-Trump rantings on social media. His politics have quickly become a talking point among some conservative pundits seeking a quick political score: proof of a looming leftist campaign against the government.
Experts in homegrown extremism say it's not so simple '-- Hodgkinson had no known association to any left-wing extremist group. But they also say that the past few months have seen enough of a rise in politically motivated violence from the far left that monitors of right-wing extremism have begun shifting their focus, and sounding the alarm. They see indications that the uptick in extremist rhetoric and anti-government activism that characterized the early years of the Obama presidency are beginning to manifest on the far left in the early days of Trump's, and that the two sides are increasingly headed for confrontation.
''I think we're in a time when we can't ignore the extremism from the Left,'' said Oren Segal, the director of the Center on Extremism, an arm of the Anti-Defamation League. Over the past few months, the ADL, which hosts regular seminars on homegrown extremism for law enforcement officials, has begun warning of the rising threat posed by far-left groups, most recently at a seminar just this past Sunday. ''When we have anti-fascist counterprotests '-- not that they are the same as white supremacists '-- that can ratchet up the violence at these events, and it means we can see people who are violent on their own be attracted to that,'' Segal said. ''I hate to say it, but it feels inevitable.''
The evidence is so far largely anecdotal. Levin says that since December 2015, he's documented nearly two-dozen episodes in California where political events turned violent because of agitation on both sides, something he says he hardly ever saw before. Now, there are violent clashes on college campuses involving groups like Antifa, the anti-fascist group, taking on the alt-right; and aggressive anti-Trump rallies attended by members of the Redneck Revolt, a new pro-minority, anti-supremacist group that encourages its members to train with rifles. Online, hard leftists increasingly discuss politics in dire terms, and rationalize violence as a necessity'-- even the true inheritor of traditional progressive activism. (Or, in the case of the ''Punch a Nazi'' meme , a fun game.)
Left-wing extremism, of course, is nothing new. Groups like the Weather Underground and the Black Panthers have deep roots , and in the years after 9/11, Segal says, the largest source of extremist violence was from the Left: eco-terrorists and animal rights activists. But those later organizations mostly targeted institutions; in the modern era, politically motivated violence perpetrated by angry lone-wolf attackers bearing automatic rifles, of the sort carried out in Wednesday's attack, has until now largely been a modus operandi of the far right.
In a recent interview with VICE News Tonight , a chapter leader of one newly formed anti-fascist group called Redneck Revolt said the group has taken up guns only in self-defense. ''We are a response to a rise in politically motivated violence and intimidation against vulnerable communities,'' said the chapter leader, who asked to be identified only by a first name, Mitch. ''That doesn't mean that we're, like, looking for a fight. We're just trying to defend ourselves.''
Redneck Revolt doesn't self-identify as ''left,'' but its ideals tend to fall along the liberal side of the spectrum: pro-Muslim, pro-immigrant, pro-LGBT, anti''economic inequality. But Mitch said that as the group has reached out to other organizations, like the local Three Percenter Militia, a largely right-wing, anti-Obama group, they found unlikely sources of commonality, particularly in their focus on local sovereignty, and general concerns about the direction of the country. Some former members of Three Percenters have even become involved in their activities '-- after ''extensive vetting,'' Mitch said.
Chris Hamilton, an expert on American extremist movements at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, says anti-authoritarian sentiment may be blurring what once seemed to be clear ideological lines. ''If you think about it, leftists never joined the National Rifle Association '-- unless they were radicals, they never thought about stockpiling weapons,'' he said. ''Ok. Well, maybe we're entering a period where leftists will start thinking about things in that way, like the eco-radicals did in the '70s.''
Hamilton says that as he browses far-left websites and listens to left-wing talk radio, he hears some of the same sentiments he's been hearing for years on the right. '' These days, that kind of sentiment is popping up in the middle and on the left; it's not just in the sovereign citizen movement,'' he said. ''I'm really worried about rising civil strife in the U.S.''
Levin is worried about it too: The embrace by the far left of tactics that were previously the purview of the far right means the level of political tension in the country can only go up. ''I've been going up and down the state of California meeting with law enforcement officials about this. I'm very concerned about it,'' he said. ''What we're seeing is the democratization of extremism and the tactics of radicalism. I've been warning about this, and nobody gave a shit.''

Chips are down for Belgian frites as EU acts on 'unsafe compound' | World news | The Guardian
Wed, 21 Jun 2017 15:17
Belgian beer and frites in Brussels. Photograph: Alamy
The European commission has been accused of a crime against the people of Belgium for what local politicians say amounts to an attempt to ban the national dish, the frite '' or frieten, as they say in the Flemish-speaking north of the country.
Whether eaten with mayonnaise or taken au naturel, the Belgian chip is up there with chocolate, beer and the national football team in the nation's psyche. No public square is complete without a frietkot, or chip stand, where sellers swear by double frying bintje potatoes in beef or horse fat to achieve the ideal combination of a succulent centre and crispy exterior.
In a move that appears to demonstrate a dazzling lack of common touch on the part of EU officials in Brussels '' which is both the capital of Belgium and the home of the union '' the commission is proposing that the potatoes should be blanched first to prevent the formation of acrylamide, an allegedly hazardous compound that can form in the frying process when certain foods are heated to a temperature above 120C.
Belgium, which claims to have invented frites, says the move will spoil the taste and destroy the country's ''rich gastronomical tradition''.
Ben Weyts, the tourism minister and a member of Belgium's ruling coalition, has beseeched the commission to think again for the sake of his country's cultural integrity. ''It is important to be mindful not to take measures that have unintended and far-reaching consequences for our rich gastronomic tradition,'' he wrote in a letter to the food policy commissioner, Vytenis Andriukaitis.
''Our fries owe their flavour to the craftsmanship of our chippies, who fry chips raw and then fry them a second time. I understand that outside our country they have different cultures. But we have our own cultural tradition. It would be a shame if the European Union prohibited it.''
The double-frying process '' once for the soft inside, then again at a higher temperature for the crunchy outside '' is regarded as the key to making the perfect chip. Belgian chips are not thick and hearty like the English variety, nor thin and elegant like the French. Belgians regarded theirs as a cut above.
To add insult to injury, the consultation paper refers to chips as French fries, a term to which some Belgians take great exception. It is believed American servicemen in the second world war coined the phrase after eating chips in Belgium, where they were confused by being in French-speaking Wallonia.
While Belgian politicians are railing against the move, the commission's proposal would only recommend the blanching of potatoes rather than enforce a ban.
A commission spokesman said they were consulting on how best to reduce the intake of acrylamide. A similar risk to that posed by the Belgian frite is found in roast potatoes, biscuits, porridge, coffee, crackers and bread. The European Food Safety Authority has said children are most at risk.
''The commission has no intention whatsoever to ban Belgian frites or any other frites for that matter,'' the spokesman said.
''Instead, the commission is preparing a new regulatory measure to oblige food business operators to apply a code of practice to reduce acrylamide in food, as it is carcinogenic.
''President [Jean-Claude] Juncker is particularly attached to the culinary heritage of Europe and its member states.''

Swedish commuters are using microchips to pay | Daily Mail Online
Tue, 20 Jun 2017 23:55
Swedish firm Epicenter hit the headlines in April for offering RFID implants to its employees.
The Startup offers workers microchips the size of grains of rice that function as swipe cards, to open doors, operate printers, or buy smoothies with a wave of the hand.
The injections have become so popular that workers at Epicenter hold parties for those willing to get implanted.
But, experts say the ethical dilemmas will become bigger the more sophisticated the microchips become.
Self-described 'body hacker' Jowan Osterlund from Biohax Sweden, holds a small microchip implant, similar to those implanted into workers at the Epicenter digital innovation business centre during a party at the co-working space in central Stockholm
The technology in itself is not new. Such chips are used as virtual collar plates for pets.
Companies use them to track deliveries, but it's never been used to tag employees on a broad scale before.
Epicenter and a handful of other companies are the first to make chip implants broadly available.
And as with most new technologies, it raises security and privacy issues.
While biologically safe, the data generated by the chips can show how often an employee comes to work or what they buy.
Unlike company swipe cards or smartphones, which can generate the same data, a person cannot easily separate themselves from the chip.

If You Hate the New Pride Flag, You're the Problem | Advocate.com
Wed, 21 Jun 2017 11:52
Last week in Philadelphia, as part of its month-long Pride celebrations, the city hoisted the rainbow flag on a pole outside City Hall. As people clapped and cheered, someone inevitably asked, ''Wait, why is there a black and a brown stripe on there?'' That person was right to ask why, because, well, black and brown stripes on the Pride rainbow flag are a new thing.
Turns out, Amber Hikes, the head of Philadelphia's Office of LGBT Affairs, approved her committee's decision to add the stripes as a way to give more visibility to LGBT+ people of color. This makes sense when you consider that Philadelphia has had some issues with racial discrimination over the past year. Throw in that there have long been issues of racial division and discrimination in the LGBT+ community nationwide for years, and it's a good gesture. This person probably said, ''OK, cool,'' and moved on like everyone should.
But of course, a lot of people didn't. They complained that it breaks with tradition, that there's no brown in a rainbow, and that it singles out people of color for special treatment. Listen, folks, get over yourselves. The flag is just a symbol of an idea, not an official organization or government, and based on some of the tacky uses for the American flag I've seen at Pride before, even that has never bothered you. Also, I can tell you this, if there was an official governing body for LGBT+ people, I certainly would have protested to the Symbols and Signs Committee when it decided to make the Babadook an icon. Really, guys? The Babadook? I can totally relate my search for acceptance to being a monster that kills the family dog (I know it's a joke, guys '... settle down).
Many of you may have forgotten that during the '80s, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, many Pride flags had a black stripe to represent the deaths in the community. Besides, we've seen so many variations of the Pride flag over the years, with stars, hearts, triangles, peace symbols, flowers, yada yada yada, what does it matter if we change it up some? If it's really that important that you get to have your rainbow flag without the dark stripes, then fine, you can stick to the other one.
If it really irks you that people of color wanted to feel represented on a Pride flag, you need to rethink your battle plans, because this is a stupid hill to die on. People of color really have been marginalized and pushed aside in our community, and if you don't think that's true, I can probably guess what color skin you have '-- and no, spray tan is not a skin color. If giving POC their own Pride flag helps them feel welcome, then what the hell should it matter? There are flags for trans, bi, lesbian, bears, allies, leathers, bears; I mean, for God's sake, there's probably a flag for queer furries who are only into left-handed Jewish people. If people of color want to have their own Pride flag, let them. The fact that you're so uptight that they want something as simple as a minor symbol of acceptance says more about you than any sort of ''social justice warrior/political correctness run amok.''
There's something very telling in the reaction to the new Pride flag as well as the impetus for it. I know that the rainbow flag is supposed to cover everyone in the community '-- black, white, indigenous, Asian, gay, bi, trans, etc. '-- but when some people feel they have to do something like this to draw attention to their unique issues, it shows we've all failed in some regard. We've overlooked something, we haven't been listening, and we haven't been supporting each other, and so we aren't really a rainbow. In fact, instead of putting the stripes on one end of the flag, I would have stuck them right in the middle where everyone can see. Why? Because I see this as not just a way of calling attention, but a way to unsettle those who are a little too out of touch.
I agree we should have the a main Pride flag that represents the whole community of sexual and gender variants who are marginalized, and there is really no better symbol than the rainbow since we really are all different types that, when gathered together, bring light to the world. Yet the fact that people felt the need to do this tells me we aren't really there and that we might in some ways be moving backward, becoming more divided than united. For now, I don't care if POC want to have their Pride flag variant '-- it does me no harm and gives them Pride, so why should I really care? The one thing I do care about, though, is that one day we as members of the LGBT+ community are in a place where no one group of people have to do something like this because they feel they aren't included.

JUSTIFIED - Dash Camera Video Of Philando Castile Shooting Released; Dispels Lies - Blue Lives Matter
Wed, 21 Jun 2017 18:05
Dash camera video shows what really happened during the Philando Castile shooting.
Philando Castile Shooting Dash Camera Video ReleasedSt. Paul, MN '' Dash camera footage from the Philando Castile shooting has finally been released, and it reveals that the narrative given by his girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, is not accurate (video below.) This comes after Reynolds had already been caught in a string of other lies.
Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, is well-known for live-streaming the aftermath of her boyfriend's 2016 fatal shooting by St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez during a traffic stop. Reynolds' live-streamed Facebook video of the traffic stop did not capture anything that led up to the shooting of Philando Castile, or the shooting itself, only the aftermath.
The video has been viewed millions of times and led to rioting. The shooting occurred in close proximity to the shooting of Alton Sterling, and the two shootings contributed to a boiling-over point, inspiring the terrorist attacks which involved assassinating police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge.
''He's licensed to carry. He was trying to get out his ID and his wallet out his pocket, and he let the officer know.'' Reynolds said on her Facebook Live stream of the aftermath of the shooting.
The dash camera video shows that after informing Officer Jeronimo Yanez that he was armed, the officer told Castile repeatedly not to reach for his gun.
Philando Castile responded, ''I don't have to reach for it,'' while reaching in the area where his gun was located.
Castile never told the officer what he was reaching for.
It was later determined that Castile was high on marijuana at the time of the stop, which impaired his ability to listen to Officer Yanez when he was instructed not to reach for his gun. Officer Yanez shot Castile after he ignored orders and reached towards his gun.
Officer Yanez sounds like he's crying as he repeatedly yells expletives.
''I told him not to reach for it,'' a distressed Officer Yanez shouted in the aftermath of the shooting.
''You told him to get his ID, sir.'' Diamond Reynolds responded.
In fact, Officer Yanez asked for Philando Castile's license and insurance near the beginning of the stop and Castile had already handed over paperwork before informing Officer Yanez about his gun.
Philando Castile didn't have a driver's license to turn over to turn over because his license was suspended. With a long history of arrests for driving on a suspended license, Philando Castile was likely aware that he was about to be arrested, which is when he informed the officer that he was armed.
After 27 hours of deliberation, on Friday at around 2 PM, a Ramsey county court issued the Philando Castile verdict and found Officer Jeronimo Yanez not guilty of all counts in the shooting of Philando Castile in July 2016.
St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez had stopped Castile's vehicle on July 6, 2016, because he believed Castile might have been involved in a convenience store robbery a few days earlier. Officer Yanez was one of the police officers who had responded to that robbery. Further investigation after the stop showed no connection to Castile and the robbery.
As an apparent ruse, the officer told Castile that he was stopped for having a brake light out.
Castile's long previous criminal history does not show a tendency toward violence, although he had been stopped 52 times in the past few years for traffic-related issues.
After the Philando Castile shooting, Diamond Reynolds lied after Castile was shot and said that he didn't have any criminal history. Reynolds also lied by claiming that she was Castile's fiance, when she wasn't. She claimed that she was held overnight by the police, when she was only interviewed for two hours before an officer bought her groceries and took her home. And Reynolds claimed that police didn't provide first aid to Castile, when they did.
We now know that Reynolds's account of the shooting did not reflect what happened.
Diamond Reynolds was later arrested in an unrelated case for being involved in an attack, using a hammer to attack other women.
Officer Jeronimo Yanez was charged November'‰16 with second-degree manslaughter and two felony counts of dangerous discharge of a firearm.
Prosecutors claimed that Officer Yanez, who is Meican-American, racially profiled Philando Castile, who was black, when he stopped him.
The trial centered around whether Officer Jeronimo Yanez believed that Philando Castile was posing a threat to his life, and whether that belief was reasonable under the circumstances.
''I thought I was going to die,'' Officer Jeronimo Yanez testified in his defense, ''I had no other choice. I was forced to engage Mr. Castile. He was not complying with my directions.''
When asked if her wanted to shoot Philando Castile, Officer Yanez said, ''I did not want to shoot Mr. Castile at all. Those were not my intentions.''
Officer Yanez told the court that when he saw Castile grab a gun near his right thigh after he had been ordered not to reach for it, visions of his wife and baby girl flashed through his mind, according to Star Tribune.
Now the false narrative about the Philando Castile shooting has already been rooted in peoples' minds, it's destined to become the next ''hands up, don't shoot.'' People aren't going to change their minds about what happened, and headlines will still claim that the shooting was an unjustified racially-motivated shooting.

The detailed data of nearly 200 million U.S. registered voters were leaked online, local media reported on Monday.
The leak was discovered by security firm UpGuard, which said the data came from three analytics companies hired by the Republican Party.
Names, birth dates, addresses and other voter registration details of some 198 million voters were leaked, according to UpGuard. The number of overall U.S. registered voters was just over 200 million.
The 1.1 terabytes of data were discovered on June 12 in a unprotected cache on the Internet, but secured by June 14.
Deep Root, a company involved in leaking the information, said the data was exposed on June 1 after a system update.
The leaked info exposed the extent to which U.S. political entities analyzed voter behaviors in order to capitalize on predictions made on the basis of those analysis.

Study: Tesla car battery production releases as much CO2 as 8 years of driving on petrol '' Tallbloke's Talkshop
Wed, 21 Jun 2017 10:48
Tesla Model S '' this is the only way you'll keep warm in one during winter.
From NyTeknik:
Huge hopes tied to electric cars as the solution to automotive climate problem. But the electric car batteries are eco-villains in the production. Several tons of carbon dioxide has been placed, even before the batteries leave the factory.
IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute was commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Energy Agency investigated litiumjonbatteriers climate impact from a life cycle perspective. There are batteries designed for electric vehicles included in the study. The two authors Lisbeth Dahll¶f and Mia Romare has done a meta-study that is reviewed and compiled existing studies.
The report shows that the battery manufacturing leads to high emissions. For every kilowatt hour of storage capacity in the battery generated emissions of 150 to 200 kilos of carbon dioxide already in the factory. The researchers did not study individual bilm¤rkens batteries, how these produced or the electricity mix they use. But if we understand the great importance of play battery take an example: Two common electric cars on the market, the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model S, the batteries about 30 kWh and 100 kWh.
Even when buying the car has thus emissions occurred, corresponding to approximately 5.3 tons and 17.5 tons, the batteries of these sizes. The numbers can be difficult to relate to. As a comparison, a trip for one person round trip from Stockholm to New York by air causes the release of more than 600 kilograms of carbon dioxide, according to the UN organization ICAO calculation.
Another conclusion of the study is that about half the emissions arising from the production of raw materials and half the production of the battery factory. The mining accounts for only a small proportion of between 10-20 percent.
Read more: ''The potential electric car the main advantage''
The calculation is based on the assumption that the electricity mix used in the battery factory consists of more than half of the fossil fuels. In Sweden, the power production is mainly of fossil-nuclear and hydropower why lower emissions had been achieved.
The study also concluded that emissions grow almost linearly with the size of the battery, even if it is pinched by the data in that field. It means that a battery of the Tesla-size contributes more than three times as much emissions as the Nissan Leaf size. It is a result that surprised Mia Romare.

After Otto Warmbier's death, tourism to North Korea comes under scrutiny - The Washington Post
Wed, 21 Jun 2017 12:17
TOKYO '-- For some intrepid travelers, North Korea is the holy grail. There's hardly a place that's more off the beaten path, a travel tale more exotic than one that begins ''When I was in Pyongyang .'‰.'‰.''
About 1,000 American tourists visit North Korea each year, looking for an adventure and a glimpse at the ''Hermit Kingdom.'' But the death of Otto Warmbier, the American student who had been imprisoned in the country for 17 months, has focused a new light on tourism to North Korea, which the regime has been trying to promote.
Warmbier's father, Fred, said after his son was sent home in a coma last week that companies promoting tourism to North Korea are providing ''fodder'' for the regime.
Rep. Edward R. Royce (R-Calif.), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, agreed. ''Otto's father is right,'' he said. ''Travel propaganda lures far too many people to North Korea.''
The United States should ban tourist travel to North Korea, Royce said after Warmbier's parents announced their 22-year-old son's death Monday.
Warmbier, a University of Virginia student, was curious about the world and wanted to explore it, his father said in an interview in April. So, at the end of 2015, the young man joined the ''New Year's Party Tour'' run by Young Pioneer Tours, a company that boasts ''budget tours to destinations your mother wants you to stay away from!''
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has set a goal of attracting a million tourists to the Communist-ruled county. Critics have said tourism is a significant source of foreign currency for the regime.
[Otto Warmbier dies days after release from North Korean detention]
The State Department has steadily ratcheted up its travel advisory for North Korea and strongly warns Americans against traveling to the country because of the risk of arbitrary detention. Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years in prison for allegedly stealing a propaganda sign.
Efforts to restrict U.S. citizens from traveling to North Korea are likely to gain new momentum now, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle calling the regime ''barbaric'' and ''murderous.''
A bill is already before the House to limit travel to North Korea for American citizens, and Warmbier's death could prompt the Senate to consider the same. The Trump administration is also considering stopping Americans from going to North Korea as tourists.
Three other Americans are still being detained in North Korea, but they were all working there '-- two at a private Korean-American-run university and one at a hotel in a northern special economic zone.
(Jason Aldag/The Washington Post)
Particular attention is now falling on Young Pioneer Tours, a China-based travel company that takes its name from the youth leagues in communist countries.
''The devastating loss of Otto Warmbier's life has led us to reconsider our position on accepting American tourists,'' the company said in a statement Tuesday, calling his detention ''appalling'' and saying ''a tragedy like this must never be repeated.''
Young Pioneer Tours will no longer be taking U.S. citizens to North Korea, it said: ''We now consider the risk to Americans visiting North Korea to be too high.''
Two other travel companies, British-run Koryo Tours and New Jersey-based Uri Tours, said that they were ''reviewing'' whether to continue taking Americans to North Korea. All of the companies have had tourists detained in North Korea, but none with the consequences faced by Warmbier.
[N. Korea tries to lure tourists to earn foreign currency, but two now on trial]
Red flags have been raised about Young Pioneer Tours for some time among the relatively small group of people who travel to North Korea regularly.
Five people who witnessed Young Pioneer tours in North Korea said they saw reckless behavior, with customers drinking heavily, not being respectful and denigrating their local tour guides. Three of the five people interviewed work in North Korea, and the two others were on tours.
One of the people, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he still works in North Korea, recalled seeing some of the tourists leaving a hotel bar at 7:30 a.m.
A second person, who had been on a Young Pioneer tour, said that the company's spiel about not being a typical travel experience was a big part of its appeal and that drinking was a part of that. The company advertises a ''not your average beer festival'' trip to Pyongyang in the summer and a St. Patrick's Day tour featuring an ''international pub crawl.'' ''So put on your greens and come join us as we challenge the [North] Koreans to a bunch of friendly drinking games!'' its site says.
But taking too casual an attitude toward being in North Korea can foster a ''reckless'' atmosphere among tour groups, said another frequent traveler to Pyongyang.
One tourist did a handstand in front of Kumsusan, the mausoleum where North Korea's first two leaders lie in state, one of the most sensitive sites for the regime. This resulted in the North Korean tour guide losing her job, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.
Alcohol was not involved in that incident, said Troy Collings, a New Zealander who is one of the partners in Young Pioneer Tours. He did not respond to specific questions about reports of excessive drinking on the company's tours. However, he said that the company was professional and well prepared.
''People are quick to embellish their stories when the media are interested,'' Collings said.
Tour leaders had warned all the customers about the significance of Kumsusan and told them not to act inappropriately near images of the leaders, he said.
''We have taken over 8,000 people to North Korea with only one incident,'' Collings said, referring to Warmbier's treatment.
[Otto Warmbier has extensive loss of brain tissue, no obvious signs of trauma ]
Daniel Lahti, a 31-year-old Swede who ran the Pyongyang marathon in April, said he never felt anything less than safe in North Korea, even when enjoying a few beers after the big run.
''It was perfectly fine while we were there,'' said Lahti, who went on a tour led by Collings. ''He was very concerned about safety and told us that everyone should behave in certain ways. As long as you play by the rules, you'll be fine.''
Adrian Webster, a 31-year-old Australian who traveled to North Korea with his girlfriend in April, said that he always felt safe with Young Pioneer Tours.
''Before departing to North Korea, a briefing took place in Beijing. They again highlighted the rules and answered any concerns and questions,'' he said. ''When making the booking, you are also required to read and sign a travel agreement.''
Young Pioneer Tours was founded in 2008 by Gareth Johnson, a 36-year-old British man who has a large red tattoo on his left arm showing the Communist hammer and sickle that '-- along with a calligraphy brush '-- are the emblem of North Korea's ruling party. The brush is replaced by a machine gun in his tattoo.
''I realized there was nothing in the way of a budget company that catered for the demographic of people who would not usually do 'group tours,' so felt I could combine my love of travel with my newfound love for the people and culture of the DPRK!'' Johnson says on the company's website, using the abbreviation for North Korea's official name.
Johnson did not respond to requests for comment.
He is also believed to be involved with another company, previously called Gross Negligence Tours, but which now goes by GN Tours.
The company, inspired by the movie ''The Hangover,'' offers stag parties in Cambodia '-- ''beaches, babes, bullets and booze (all cheap)'' '-- and the Philippines.
References to Johnson no longer appear on the GN Tours website, although Google searches show that they existed, and several photos on the GN Tours page are the same as those on the Young Pioneers site. The GN Instagram page shows several photos of Johnson, one in a T-shirt with Communist insignia, and Johnson's Instagram handle is ''gntours.''

Robert De Niro Was Client Of Prostitution Ring That Used Children '' Anonymous

Robert De Niro was a client of an international prostitution ring that hired underage children and specialized in providing prostitutes to wealthy, high-profile clients.
[ynw] According to court records from 1998, Independent journalist John Lichfield discovered that the prostitution agency routinely ensnared girls as young as 15, forcing them to have sex with Hollywood's rich and powerful elite.
While it is not clear whether or not De Niro was supplied with underage girls, his involvement in the ring received little to no media coverage.
Dcclothesline.com reports: The French Brigade de Repression de Proxenetisme (the equivalent of the Vice Squad) traced 89 young women who said they had been tricked or sometimes physically constrained by the agency into working for them. The girls were sometimes ''sold on like cattle'' to other call-girl agencies.
The agency's files of clients' names seized by the police are said to include many well-known members of the sports and show-business jet-set on both sides of the Atlantic, Arab princes, as well as two senior French center-right politicians.
Lichfield wrote:
''Six people are charged with the running of an international prostitution ring, whose call-girls entertained the actor Robert de Niro, the former tennis player, Wojtek Fibak, two senior (but unnamed) French politicians and several Gulf princes. The agency specialized in tricking, or trapping, star-struck teenage girls into selling their bodies with the promise of careers as models or actresses'....
De Niro, despite a much publicized 'arrest' in Paris while filming a movie earlier this year, was questioned only as a witness and occasional client of the network's prostitutes. He is suing the investigating magistrate, Frederic N'Guyen Duc Quang, following his highly publicized interrogation; the actor's lawyers accuse the investigator of deliberate publicity-seeking.''

VIDEO - Desperate for Trump Timeliness, ABC, MSNBC Devote Four Hours to Watergate | MRCTV
Thu, 22 Jun 2017 11:47
[See NewsBusters for more.] Desperate to make some sort of historical connection, ABC and MSNBC over the weekend devoted a whopping four hours to prime time documentaries on Watergate. Aging documentaries aren't exactly the first choice of these outlets, but as Robert Redford made clear on MSNBC, Saturday, America is close to a second Watergate: ''Leaks. Secret tapes. Special prosecutors and presidential paranoia. When I hear those words today, they have a familiar echo to me.'' In his introduction to All the President's Men Revisited, the actor explained why MSNBC was re-airing a three-year-old documentary (made for the 40th anniversary of Watergate): ''It struck me as prophetic and worth repeating today. We thought Watergate changed America and our political process. But did it?''

Four days after a man, whose social media was plastered with hate for President Donald Trump, and who admired MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and volunteered for the Bernie Sanders campaign, targeted with gunfire Republican congressmen playing baseball, NBC News veteran Tom Brokaw delivered a commentary about hate speech in which he never mentioned the left.
On the June 18 edition of Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, during which she earlier interviewed far-right conspiracy promoter Alex Jones, she cited the recent incident on a baseball field as she introduced Brokaw's piece about ''hate speech.'' He denounced ''the seizure on the net by hate groups of all kinds spreading their cancer of wholesale racism and violence'' and the ''reach and the poisonous claims of Alex Jones and others like him, and even establishment public figures.''

VIDEO - She Went There: Maddow Laments 'Partisan Implications' of 'Bad Weather' for Georgia Election | MRCTV
Thu, 22 Jun 2017 11:38
See more in the cross-post on the NewsBusters blog.
Folks, you had to know it would happen. When it became clear on Tuesday that Georgia Democratic congressional candidate Jon Ossoff was going to blow tens of millions of dollars and lose to Republican Karen Handel, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow suggested that heavy rain in Georgia had ''partisan implications'' that affected the special election.
Speaking to MSNBC elections guru Steve Kornacki, Maddow offered this spin/sad excuse for her snowflake viewers:
Steve, let me ask you one last question on this. If there was a turnout effect from the bad weather today in the district, does that have any partisan implications that you could foresee in terms of what was expected for same day, election day voting rather than the early vote?

VIDEO - Inter-dimensional Vortex Briefly Appears Above Sacramento
Wed, 21 Jun 2017 03:21
Sacramento, CA '-- Residents of California's State Capital were both terrified and dumbstruck this AM when what appeared to be a replica of Earth appeared in the sky. According to eye witnesses, at approximately 9:37 AM this morning there was a brilliant flash in the sky over the streets of East Sacramento followed by what appeared to be a large replica of the Earth spinning at an extraordinary speed.
''So I was out walking my dog around 9:30 when there was this large flash in the sky,'' said long-time Sacramento resident Mattie Gabaldon who pulled out her mobile phone to film the anomaly. ''It was really bright and to be honest, I thought it was a nuclear bomb or something. That's how bright it was. But then I looked up, and I couldn't believe what I saw. It was the Earth spinning at an incredible speed. It lasted a couple of minutes and then vanished.''
The police had received several reports of this Earth anomaly as it is currently being called.
According to CalTech Astrophysicist Dr. Tral Aldrich, this has all the markings of an inter-dimensional event.
''What we may be seeing, is an invasion of an alternative dimension into ours.'' said Dr. Aldrich during a telephone interview. ''So that's the part that is going to be the hardest thing for people to understand. And I know I had the hardest time coming to grips with it myself, but the math keeps telling me the same thing no matter how many times I refactor it: we live in a multi-dimensional world. From our perspective, it seems ridiculous to assert such a theory, but after careful examination of the data, along with my analysis, it all tells me that we were invaded by, well, ourselves.''
No injuries were reported from the event. Police are still collecting reports on the phenomena.

VIDEO - [VIDEO] Military officials say TERRORISM is possible in cargo ship collision with USS Fitzgerald '' The Right Scoop
Tue, 20 Jun 2017 13:26
US military officials aren't ruling anything out, including that the collision with the USS Fitzgerald was both intentional and a terrorist act:
What's interesting from this report is that GMA says that multiple maritime trackers show the cargo ship doing a massive u-turn just before hitting the USS Fitzgerald, which makes it look very intentional:
Also notice that the ship directly hit the area of the ship were sailors were sleeping. Is that a coincidence?
GMA reports that company that owns the cargo ship is now saying that the u-turn never happened and the incident happened 50 minutes earlier than the US Navy reports it.
Here are the seven sailors who died in the collision (click to enlarge):

VIDEO - Alle slachtoffers aanslag Londen zijn moslims | NOS
Mon, 19 Jun 2017 11:41
